Research and professional experience:
1985-1986 Predoctoral research in laboratory of Dr. Walter Neupert, Department of Physiological Chemistry, University of Munich: Insertion of subunit II of Cytochrome Oxidase from Neurospora crassa into the inner mitochondrial membrane (Diploma Thesis).
1986-1989 Predoctoral research in laboratory of Dr. Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, Department of Genetics, Max-Planck-Institute of Developmental Biology, Tübingen, FRG: Genetics and molecular biology of bicoid, a gene that acts as a maternal morphogen to determine pattern in the Drosophila embryo.
1989-1990 Postdoctoral research in laboratory of Dr. Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, Department of Genetics, Max-Planck-Institute of Developmental Biology, Tübingen, FRG: Investigation on the function of Bicoid as a transcriptional activator that determines pattern of zygotic gene expression in the Drosophila embryo.
