 PhD Studentships for research on:

1. The mechanisms of pattern formation in the zebrafish nervous system. The midbrain-hindbrain boundary has signaling/organizer activities that pattern the mid-hindbrain area. The signaling cascades involved in activation of the zebrafish pou2 gene as well as its effects on development are studied with experimental embryological, molecular biology and transgenic techniques.

2. The specification of dopaminergic neurons in the embryonic zebrafish brain. Using genetic, embryological and molecular biology techniques, we identify genes controlling neuronal differentiation and axononogenesis. Dopaminergic neurons are affected in Parkinson's disease.

Prof. W. Driever, Developmental Biology, Institut Biologie I (driever@biologie.uni-freiburg.de).

Candidates for PhD Studentships (salary level E 13/2) should posses, or be about to obtain, a Diploma or masters degree in Biology, Biochemistry or similar. Successful candidate may enroll in the Freiburg University graduate program Biology.

(The University of Freiburg is an equal opportunity employer.
