The "Oberseminar"
"Aspekte der angewandten Pflanzenphysiologie: Molekularbiologie und
Physiologie der Hormone (Aspects of applied plant physiology: molecular
biology and physiology of hormones)" is for advanced students (above
5. semester, Master, Diplom, Lehramt) and for PhD students. Plant
hormones play a crucial role in controlling the way in which plants
grow and develop. The seminar provides insight into fascinating research
areas of plant hormone action at the molecular, cellular and whole-plant
level. This knowledge of hormones in whole plant functions is of importantance
for plant biotechnology and agriculture, which is another focus of
this seminar. An introduction into plant hormone mutants by PD Dr.
Gerhard Leubner and the student presentations, up-to-date hormone
topics of your own choice, are the core of the seminar. Possible topics,
reviews and further information can be found in the Web: "The Plant
Biology Place" (http://www.plantbiology.de). This website extends
my in-class teaching and is part of my "blended learning" teaching
concept to support your learning. |
| Objectives of the course: |
Learn
about how higher plant function is regulated by plant hormones.
Besides this hormone content, the expected learning outcomes and
the didactical goals of the "Oberseminar" are:
- To promote the interest
in current research topics in plant biology.
- To aquire competence
in dealing with up-to-date research topics and with (non-text-book)
knowledge.
- To learn how to deal
with research papers and how to evaluate them in relation to textbook
knowledge.
- To experience the
freedom of being responsible for the topic and focus of your own
talk.
- To learn how to discuss
scientifically and how to bring up arguments and judgements in
an research field that is not yet textbook knowledge.
- To learn how to make
a good student presentation including the subsequent discussion.
- To learn how to distinguish
between substantial and marginal issues and how to communicate
the important "take-home" messages.!
